Hallo friend and book lover!
(English text below)
Alles ändert sich - und das muss nicht unbedingt schlecht sein. Todo cambia heißt es auf Spanisch und in einem meiner Lieblingslieder von Mercedes Sosa. Sie besingt darin die vielen Dinge die sich ändern, und schließlich auch, was sich nicht ändern wird; ihre Liebe.
Klingt vielleicht ein bisschen melodramatisch, aber so emfinde ich das auch, was die anstehenden Veränderungen bei Sweet Things & Stories angeht. Ich liebe Sweet Things & Stories, ich liebe Bücher, ich liebe Sprache und Kommunikation und ich liebe die Begegnungen und lebendigen Geschichten im Laden. Die Zeichen stehen auf "Ende", aber ich habe mich für "Ändern" entschieden - und ich hoffe, Du bist dabei!

Hello !
Everything changes - which doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing. "Todo cambia" means the same in Spanish and is the title of one of my favourite songs by Mercedes Sosa. It's about all the things that are changing around her and finally about the one thing that isn't: her love. It might sound a bit dramatic, but that's just the way I feel about Sweet Things and Stories. I love the shop, I love books, I love languages and communication and I love the vivid encounters and stories at Sweet Things & Stories. Well, the signs seem to indicate "quit" these days, but I decided to choose "change" - and I hope you'll join me! Find more details in this newsletter.

Was sich ändern wird
Der 30.7.22 ist der letzte reguläre Öffnungstag bei Sweet Things & Stories, wegen unserer Aktionen zwei Stunden länger bis 15 Uhr. Im August sind Ferien und danach wird es keine regulären Öffnungszeiten mehr geben. Das heißt aber nicht "kein Buchladen", sondern "DEIN Buchladen" und das bedeutet: Sweet Things & Stories bleibt erreichbar, und zwar genauso, wie Du es möchtest. Der Vorteil: Ich kann völlig individuell auf alle Deine Wünsche und Bedürfnisse eingehen, und muss auch gar nicht so viel ändern, falls wir uns wieder mit Lockdowns oder anderen Problemen herumschlagen müssen.So sieht unser Angebot ab September aus: - Unter 01520-1831294 bin ich per Anruf, SMS, WhatsApp, Threema oder Signal jederzeit für Fragen, Wünsche, Bestellungen, Terminabsprachen... zu erreichen. - Buchbestellungen, eine vorbereitete Auswahl zu bestimmten Anfragen, Geschenke, Gutscheine, Bestellungen aus dem online-shop... können nach Vereinbarung bei Sweet Things & Stories oder montags bis donnerstag in unserem Kinderbuchladen Eules Bücherbaum in der Kasernenstraße 2 abgeholt werden. - Einkaufs- und Stöbertermine bei Sweet Things & Stories, allein oder mit mehreren, können individuell nach Zeit und Laune ausgemacht werden - Unser "Breakfast at the Bookshop" Angebot besteht weiterhin- auf Wunsch kannst du auch zu anedern Zeiten mit Freunden Zeiten asumachen, zu denen Ihr den Buchladen zum Stöbern und Genießen für Euch alleine habt. Dieses Angebot wurde bisher zum Beispiel für Geburtstagsfrühstücke oder gemütliche Treffen von Bücherfreunden, Englischgruppen... genutzt. - Einmal im Monat (außer im August) findet eine Buchversteigerung auf facebook statt. Am darauffolgenden Samstag ist Sweet Things & Stories von 10 bis 17 Uhr geöffnet und bietet einen Sonderverkauf zum Versteigerungsthema und gemütliches Einkaufen bei Tee und Gebäck. Die Termine stehen im Newsletter, auf der Homepage und auf der facebook-Seite. - Unser Angebot im Laden wird sich verändern: Gebrauchte Bücher gibt es ab September nur noch im Verschenkregal (24/7 frei zugänglich vor dem Laden) und es wird weniger Geschenkideen und Saisonware geben, dafür aber viel mehr neue Bücher!! Du wirst im Laden zusätzlich das komplette online-Angebot und viele neue Titel finden, und nach und nach wird auch das komplette Sortiment im online-Shop zu finden sein, so dass Du online stöbern und dort bestellen oder Deine Auswahl vor Ort abholen kannst. - In und um Renningen liefern wir gegen Vorkasse (PayPal, Überweisung) bei Bedarf an die Haustür, auch als Geschenk verpackt. - Sonderwünsche wie Bücherkisten für Schulklassen, Geschenksets für LehrerInnen, Überraschungspakete... sind jederzeit willkommen!

What's going to change
July 30th will be the last regular opening day at Sweet Things and Stories, with two extra hours until 3pm to enjoy our book swap and bag of books event. We'll be on holiday in August and from September there'll be no more regular opening hours. This won't be "no bookshop", though, but "YOUR bookshop" which means that you'll be able to contact and visit the shop exactly in the way that suits you. The good thing is that this will allow me to always be able to individually answer your needs and also to be very flexible in case Corona or other troubles should be back in autumn...So this is what we offer from September: - You can reach me any time via call, text message, SMS, WhatsApp, Threema or Signal to ask questions, order books, make appointments...... - Book orders, pre-selcted books for a special need, gifts, gift certificates, orders from our online-shop.... can be picked up at individually arraged times either at Sweet Things and Stories or from Monday till Thursday at our children's bookshop Eules Bücherbaum in 2, Kasernenstrasse. - Arrange individual shopping times for yourself or a group at Sweet Things and Stories - "Our Breakfast at the Bookshop" offer still exists, offering another opportunity to browse our books to your heart's content while enjoying a delicious breakfast - or lunch, tea time... - with friends. So far, this offer has been used for birthday parties and meetings of friend groups and English groups. - Once a month (except in August) there's going to be a themed online auction on facebook. The following Saturday, Sweet Things & Stories is open from 10am to 5pm for a special sale according to the auction's theme and cosy shopping with tea and baked goods. You can find the dates in our newsletter, on our homepage and on our facebook page. - Our product range at the shop is going to change, too: From September, you'll find used books only at the free little library outside the shop( accessible 24/7 for everyone). There'll be less gifts and seasonal products but a lot of new books!! Our whole online selection will be available at the shop, plus many new titles, and step by step you'll also find all the shop books online so that you can make your choice at home and pick it up at the shop. - In and around Renningen we deliver books to your doorstep if needed (advace payment via bank transfer or PayPal), gift-wrapping possible - special requests like book boxes for school classes, gift sets for your teacher, surprise boxes,... welcome!

Das Juli-Thema sind unsere gebrauchten Bücherschätze, da die ja im Laden bald keinen Platz mehr haben werden.
Am Mittwoch, 27.7., findest Du auf unserer facebook-Seite ab 19.30Uhr Buchpakete mit gebrauchten Büchern, die Du Dir dort ansehen kannst. Sie haben einen Startpreis, den man bei Interesse als erstes Gebot in die Kommentare schreiben kann. Weitere Gebote bitte nur in Euroschritten. Wer um 22.00 Uhr das höchste Gebot abgegeben hat, hat das Paket gekauft und kann sein Paket am kommenden Samstag im Laden abholen oder (bitte kurzen Hinweis in die Kommentare oder direkt an mich) es wird versandkostenfrei auf Rechnung geliefert.
Nicht auf facebook? Alle Buchpakete, Beschreibungen und Startpreise kann man auch hier im online-shop sehen. Mitbieten geht dort zwar nicht, aber wenn Dich etwas interessiert, kannst Du bis 22 Uhr Dein persönliches Höchtsgebot (für jedes Paket einzeln) per E-mail an service@english-bookshop.de schicken. Wenn es nicht überboten wird, gehört das Paket Dir - entweder zum Startpreis oder jeweils 1€ teurer als das nächsthöchste Gebot.
Die Auktionsgewinner werden ab 22.30 Uhr auf facebook und hier im online-shop bekannt gegeben.

You might remember our quite popular online-auctions during the first Corona lockdown or maybe you were one of the enthusiatic bidders - the auctions are back!
The July topic will be second hand books since there soon won't be any space left for them at the shop.
On Wednesday, July 27th you'll find bundles of great used books, descriptions and starting prices on our facebook-page where you can place your bids, (in Euro steps, starting with the starting price) in the comments. The person who will have placed the highest bid by 10pm will have bought the bundle and can pick it up the following Saturday at the shop or have it delivered with an invoice, free shipping (please let me know if you want to have it delivered).
If you are not on facebook, you can still have a look at the bundles here on our shop page. Although it's not possible to place any bids on the page, you can send an e-mail with your personal highest bid (one for each bundle you're interested in) to service@english-bookshop.de. If there isn't any higher bid by 10pm the bundle is yours, either for the starting price or 1€ more than the next highest bid.
You can check the auction winners on facebook and on the shop-page after 10.30pm.

Ich liebe es, Bücher an den Orten zu lesen, von denen sie handeln (habe es aber nur beinahe geschafft, James Joyces"Ulysses" in Dublin zu Ende zu lesen - und bestimmt nicht in 24 Stunden, in denen die Handliung spielt) oder Orte aufzusuchen, die ich aus Büchern kenne (wie zum Beispiel die "Mittelalter-Zweigstelle" des Met, "The Cloisters" in New York, die ich über eins der großartigsten Bücher aller Zeiten kennengelernt hatte: Richard Powers' "The Time of Our Singing").
Manchmal sind Orte so wichtig für das Werk von AutorInnen, dass sie später nach ihnen benannt werden, wie etwa die Gegend um West Yorkshire und und den East Lancashires Pennines, offiziell bekannt als Bronte Country, nach den berühmten schreibenden Schwestern. Diesen Monat habe ich ein Video ausgesucht, in dem Du mehr über die dramatische Landschaft und die dramatischen Werke erfährst, hier kannst Du es Dir ansehen.

I love reading books at the places the story is set (but only almost managed to finish James Joyce's "Ulysses" while in Dublin, and certainly not in the 24 hours in which the story takes place) or visiting places that I have read about in books (like the Met's "Middle Ages branch" "The Cloisters" in New York, that I had read about in one of the word's greatest books, Richard Powers' "The Time of Our Singing"). Sometimes place is so important for an author's work that the whole region later gets named after him or her. Take the area covering West Yorkshire and the East Lancashire Pennines, for example, named after the famous Bronte sisters.
